Day of the Dead Celebration - Street Photography in Practice
Presented by: Vera Hershenberg
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday, which is being celebrated on November 1st. It honors and remembers loved ones who have died. We will be exploring and shooting the celebration together. You may see colorful ofrendas (altars) decorated with marigolds, candles, photographs, favorite foods, and personal objects. The celebration in South Philly will feature elaborate calaveras (skulls), face painting, traditional clothing, music and dancing. As we eat our way through the crowds, try to focus on the color, craftsmanship, symbolism, and joyful spirit of remembrance, while being respectful when photographing people and private altars. Be prepared to lose yourself among the revelers and experience this tradition.
As we weave through this celebration, Vera will share tips that will encourage you to get close to your subject and fill the frame, experiment with light and angles and capture moments that will tell your story.
