Creative Bird Photography by Ray Hennessy
What makes an artistic bird photo different than just a standard documentary bird portrait. I’ll be discussing and showing all the methods I use such as light, space, bokeh, getting close, capturing action and using hides to create unique bird photos that are a joy to look at. I will be sharing nearly 200 photos captured over the past 10 years that show these different methods in practice and discussing more in depth how I implement the techniques while shooting. Be ready for a wide variety of unique and different bird photos!
Bio
Starting in 2007, my fascination with wildlife photography started as a passionate hobby that eventually transformed into my full-time career. Since 2020, I’ve embraced a nomadic lifestyle, living in a van and traveling across the United States and Canada to capture breathtaking natural landscapes and wildlife. My focus lies in using creative lighting and captivating compositions to create unique images of the animals I encounter.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Creativity and Expression in Photography by Guy Tal
Photography is a medium eminently capable of both objective representation and subjective
expression. This dichotomy, although long resolved in other media, is still a subject of
contention among photographers and critics. If we accept photography as a medium for
expressive art, the question remains: how to use a medium ostensibly designed to record
realistic appearances to convey novel and subjective meanings.
In this talk, Guy will discuss some of the challenges faced by photographic artists today and
historically and explain his philosophy of photographic art, rooted in creativity and
expression.
Bio
Guy Tal is a professional writer and photographic artist living in Utah. He is the author of
several books, a regular contributor to various periodicals, a blogger, and an educator. Guy’s
work reflects his love of wild place and the experiences they afford, as well as his lifelong
interest in science, philosophy, and art.
