2026-2027 Challenge Topics and Schedule
Here are the Challenge topics for the upcoming season beginning September 2026.
Once we have finalized the judges, we will update this to include the months for each topic and the assigned judge.
Movement - Illustrate travel through space or time. Take the viewer on a journey not to a destination.
What Remains – Explore memory, leftovers, emotional residue, ruins or abandonment.
Found Geometry – Find geometrical relationships in a scene through shapes, repetition, or symmetry.
Three – Feature exactly three subjects or elements.
People at Work – Show people engaged in work, craft, or labor .
One Dominant Color – Build your image around one dominant color.
Fragments – Show a partial subject or tell an incomplete story.
Against the Odds – Tell a story of persistence, resilience, or survival.
This Shouldn’t Work – Present unexpected combinations, visual contradictions, or elements that
seem out of place together, yet somehow create a successful image.
Painterly – Create a photo with painterly qualities through the use of light, shadow,
composition, or in-camera effects. Painterly effects created primarily through the use of filters
or painting software are not the intent of this challenge.
